Farm Wedding in Yaxley | Katie & James
I was over the moon when asked to photograph Katie & James’ farm wedding in Yaxley, in the north of Suffolk. It was a fun day filled with lots of personal details. Plus the odd tractor or two ;-)
Now, it’s no secret that my other half, Claire, owns a bridal boutique (Lavender & Jude in Bungay in case you’re interested). Yes, my opinion is obviously a little biased but, putting that to one side, it’d still be fair to say she’s flipping good at her job and has an uncannily unerring ability to match the right dress with the right wearer. Kind of like a wedding dress Olivanders. So when she drops me a text to say she’s recommended me to one of her brides, I know she’s going to look fantastic on her wedding day and I most definitely want to be part of her plans.
…and so it was with Katie who wore a gown from British based designers Romantica, expertly suggested by Claire. Katie looked stunning and the dress perfectly suited her personality along with the look and feel of her countryside wedding to James.
The ceremony was at nearby St Mary’s in Mellis, a stone’s throw from writer Roger Deakin’s former home, Walnut Tree Farm (if, like me, you love the Suffolk countryside, his books are a must). Special mention should be made of the truly lovely vicar here who conducted the ceremony with warmth and humanity. Also big-ups to Edward the cockapoo who performed his ring-bearing duties flawlessly. Katie and James made their entrance to the reception in Katie’s mum’s vintage MG followed by drinks and an afternoon tea.
The couple were keen to take advantage of the location for portraits which included a smoke bomb walk through the neighbouring barley field and confetti showered photos on the waterside deck.
Music is an important aspect in their lives and it was perhaps no surprise they had two bands for the evening. Foot-stomping three-piece Murphy’s Lore got the ball rolling to be followed by the irrepressible Pirate Joe and the Foreign Locals.
Here’s a selection of the best bits - sit down with a cuppa and take it all in :-)
